A picture is worth a thousand words and your rooms will speak well for themselves if you’ve dressed your wall space appropriately. This is true at any time, as we all know that artwork enhances your home by providing focal points in various areas, but even more so when you are selling your home.
The right picture in the right place is worth its weight in resale gold. It can provide the necessary punch of colour to your neutral decor scheme, become the focal point of an otherwise plain room, and even help lead you from one area to the next.
Scale and balance are extremely important when choosing and hanging your artwork. Balance is achieved here by the correct spacing, as well as through the staggered heights at which they are hung. The most common mistakes that people make are choosing the wrong size pictures for their walls (they are usually too small) and hanging them at the wrong height (too high). By bringing your prints, paintings, and photos down lower, you will usually achieve a more balanced look.
If you’re having trouble, experiment with a paper template cut to the same size as your pictures, attaching it with a low-tack tape before you hammer in numerous holes into your walls. If you still aren’t sure, consult a decorating professional – it will be well worth the small cost to have your rooms looking well balanced and attractive. An inappropriately hung picture will make your room look off kilter and leave a less than favourable impression with those prospective buyers.
Good Luck!
